What to do in and around Nambour

There are numerous interesting things to do in and around Nambour.  Whether it be shopping, dining out, attending an event, exploring a park or visiting a tourist attraction, there is plenty to enjoy and keep you busy.

Majestic Cinemas

Address: C-Square, 52-64 Currie Street, Nambour

A two-screen cinema offers a great selection of movies seven days a week.  A major internal refurbishment is currently underway which we will see four cinemas operating by January 2017.  There is an on-site candy bar.

If you’re looking for a great time in Nambour and enjoy live theatre, The Lind (Nambour Lind Lane Theatre Inc) is the right choice. They offer a variety of entertainment offerings for all ages in their state-of-the-art, air conditioned theatre.

The Old Ambulance Station is a creative space managed by SCAIP Inc, a not for profit community organisation.  SCAIP, through the management team of the Old Ambulance Station, supports emerging and established creatives to achieve their maximum potential.  There are often art exhibitions held at the Old Ambulance Station.

Nambour Museum

Address: 18 Mitchell Street Nambour

Step back in time at the Nambour & District Historical Museum and experience life through the generations since the first settlers arrived in the area. The museum showcases the rich heritage of the local district, major industries such as sugar cane, telecommunications and health as well as many other facets of country life.

Big Pineapple

Address: 76 Nambour Connection Road, Woombye
The Big Pineapple is a heritage-listed tourist attraction not far from Nambour.  A train travels around the Big Pineapple site and goes through Wildlife HQ on weekends.  There is a cafe on site and markets every Saturday morning.

Wildlife HQ is a boutique zoo which is home to over 200 native and exotic animals including some rare and endangered species. The zoo includes a fabulous petting zoo consisting of a large selection of farm animals and a reptile barn.  At certain times the zoo opens at night.

Packed full of non-stop entertainment with all the thrills and spills you can handle.  Head to Thrill Hill for 120 meters of dynamic hydro slipslide.  Covered barbecues and picnic facilities available onsite as well as a kiosk packed with soft drinks, chips and ice creams or BYO a special occasion cake, food and drinks.

Yandina Ginger Factory

Address: 50 Pioneer Road, Yandina

Not far from Nambour is the iconic Ginger Factory, one of the Sunshine Coast’s most popular attractions.  Open daily with free entry (however fees apply for train rides and the Superbee Live Bee Show).

Enjoy educational tours, fun rides, great shopping facilities and a fantastic cafe featuring modern Australian cuisine. From the largest range of the world’s finest ginger products to tranquil tropical gardens and walks, there is so much to discover, taste, see and do.

The Ginger Factory is the perfect year round destination.

Aussie World

Address: 73 Frizzo Road, Bruce Highway, Palmview

Experience one of Australia’s favourite theme parks.   With over 30 rides and games, it’s guaranteed to please every one in the family.

Right next door is the iconic Pub.

Nestled among the trees in Petrie Park, the Nambour Aquatic Centre offers heated pools all year round.  The complex offers a variety of activities.

Nambour Model Railway Park 

Address: Florence Street, Nambour

Mini train rides run on the 4th Sunday of each month except December, from 10:00am to 3:00pm.  Great entertainment for the family.

Village Square Markets

Address: Town Square, Lowe Street, Nambour

Held every Thursday morning.  Fresh produce, craft, jewellery, unique clothing and many other stalls.




Petrie Creek Walk

Enjoy this gentle stroll through the delightful green heart of Nambour. The walk can start at either Arundell Avenue or Quota Park in Matthew Street and follows Petrie Creek as it meanders through the centre of Nambour.

At half way, there is the historic Moreton Mill Weir, built to provide a continuous supply of water for the annual sugar crush. Around dawn and dusk take a breather and stand quietly for a few moments as Platypus abound, particularly in the stretch, up-stream of the Weir. Take the camera for some beautiful shots on a cool morning with a light mist hovering above the water.

Quota Park

This is a beautiful place for families, central to town and close to the the Nambour RSL.  Plenty of parking available.

 Dulong Lookout

Sitting high above the Nambour township, Dulong Lookout offers spectacular vistas in every direction.  View the Blackall Ranges, Mount Coolum, the Pacific Ocean and Morton Island. Only 10 minutes drive west, along the Nambour Mapleton Road, it’s a must see.

 Koala Park

Address: Panorama Drive, Rosemount

You will be surprised when you discover this great 16 hectare park on the edge of Nambour.  Enjoy the walking tracks through the bush and after rain you can hear the water running through the creek.  Playground and picnic facilities.

Koala Park is classified by the Council as an environmentally sensitive area with high-quality remnant vegetation. It is protected from adjacent developments by adequate buffers to ensure its preservation. That is good news for the survival of our local koalas.

 Cilento Park 

Address: Waterfall Road, Nambour

A small area of bushland, with a waterfall, located close to the hospital.   Picnic tables and BBQs available.

Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk

Discover the Sunshine Coast’s natural beauty on this 58km Great Walk through the Blackall Range. Experience some of the range’s most scenic areas: warm subtropical rainforest, tall open eucalypt forest and picturesque waterfalls.

Everyone can enjoy the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk. Take half-day strolls or full-day walks. Stay longer to complete the total walk (allow 4–6 days).

Tramfest:  Bi-monthly

Address: Howard Street, Nambour

A community event held the third Saturday of the month, weather permitting.  Featuring live music, a variety of food outlets, a pop-up bar, children’s entertainment and other stall holders.  This is an important fund raising event for the Nambour Tram Project.


Collectorama Antique & Collectables Fair: Four events through the year

Venue: Nambour Showgrounds

Collectorama is a giant Antique & Collectables Fair with approximately 160 dealers, it’s good reputation spans 19 years, it is a well organised event with a friendly atmosphere. You’ll find a stunning diversity of items from eras when things were made to last.

Collecting trends include furniture, tools, books, jewellery, toys, vintage clothes, lamps, stamps & coins, militaria, kitchenalia, clocks & watches, brass, glass, china, industriana, retro, deco, & so much more, with many surprises on the day. Whether you are a collector or simply looking for unique decorating pieces or cool stuff, Collectorama is the place for you, whatever your budget, something can always be found!

One of the region’s largest events showcasing the latest in caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes, boats, vehicles and camping gear and accessories to get you outdoors and on the road in style.

Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show: June

Venue: Nambour Showgrounds

The Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show includes the traditional features of cake making to arts and craft.  The centre ring still remains a focus point as it did all those years ago, with horse events and cattle exhibitions.

Whilst there is a focus on agricultural heritage, the organising committee recognises the need to continually ensure that the event is relevant for today’s show goers and they successfully deliver a modern three day show full of agricultural, community and entertainment features.

Queensland Garden Expo: July

Venue:  Nambour Showgrounds

Information – Innovation – Inspiration

Queensland Garden Expo invites both gardening enthusiasts and novices to be inspired by the fantastic displays and get first hand information on how to transform your backyard. A tropical resort style garden, a waterwise garden, or a sustainable garden that provides fresh produce for the family, or a combination of all them, is easily achievable with the expert advice and information available at the expo.

The expo features tantalizing offerings from more than 360 exhibitors – the latest in plants, garden tools, pots, books, accessories, garden art and more.

Multiple stages host lectures, demonstrations and workshops each day whilst plant exhibitors will have nearly 40,000 plants for sale daily.

Special exhibits include the Giant Kitchen Garden featuring permaculture and organic gardening, landscape display gardens, major Floral Art competitions, a special kids’ play area and large displays from Queensland’s Garden Clubs and Flora Societies.

Nambour Swap: July

Venue: Nambour Showgrounds

This annual one day event is coordinated by the Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club.  It is the original Sunshine Coast Swap Meet and considered one of Australia’s premium SWAPS for car enthusiasts. Always well attended by buyers, service providers and suppliers of parts, (both new, and used), it provides the venue for motor enthusiasts to buy, sell or swap anything to do with Vintage, Veteran, Classic or Modern Auto-mobilia.
